Built more than four decades ago, Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord has continuously set the standard for motorsports entertainment. Known as the “Mecca of Motorsports,” the track was the first auto racing facility to place an emphasis on spectator comfort and fan-friendly amenities, an effort that aggressively continues today. The largest sports facility in the Southeast, Lowe’s Motor Speedway has 165,000 permanent seats and capacity for nearly 40,000 more spectators in the infield. The 1.5-mile superspeedway also features a state-of-the-art lighting system, 52 privately owned condominiums, 113 executive VIP suites and a seven-story office tower that houses The Speedway Club, the speedway ticket office and one of the best motorsports souvenir shops in the country. One of the busiest sports facilities in the country, Lowe’s Motor Speedway hosts three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events each year, including the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge (NASCAR’s all-star race), the Coca-Cola 600 (one of the world’s largest single-day paid sporting events) and the October running of the Bank of America 500, a pivotal race in the season-long battle for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup championship. The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway, a state-of-the-art facility featuring a four-tenths-mile clay oval, opened in May of 2000. The 15,000-seat dirt track is located directly across Highway 29 from the 1.5-mile superspeedway and annually hosts a variety of special events, including sprint cars, late model stock cars, and monster trucks. Other major events at Lowe’s Motor Speedway include two Food Lion AutoFairs, a nationally-televised series of Tuesday night Legends Car races during the summer, and the Good Guys Southeastern Rod & Custom Nationals in October. Lowe’s Motor Speedway also hosts numerous stock car driving schools and is used extensively for corporate and civic functions. Track tours are available year-round—except during events.
